EAA CHAPTER 1423 MINUTES

September 15, 2007 Meeting

The meeting was called to order by George Tamvakis at 10:10 am.

There was a discussion about the successful Young Eagles event in Washington on September 8th. Eighty-six flights were given. Thanks to all who participated and George stated that we should put a Young Eagles event on our calendar for next year.

Tom Saccio put his Seawind in the water for the first time. There was a water rudder problem and very small leakage. If all goes well, he hopes to have the plane inspected next week and possibly test-flown the last week in September.

FLY-IN October 20, 1007

The EAA paperwork has been completed and submitted. Although the power lines are still up, Greenville Utilities assured Charles and George that the underground wire will arrive by or before September 28 and the necessary work will be done immediately. If the wires aren't buried by October 1, the Fly-In will be cancelled.

EAA Chapter handbook says that "flour bombing" is not covered by insurance. They will allow "bean bag" [5 oz.] drops.

Dennis Millsap is unavailable to be Air Boss but discussed the Spot Landing Contest Rules. Berry St. John volunteered to take over the position.

It was decided that we will give incoming airplanes pertinent information about the airfield but no clearance to land [not providing air traffic control].

The printed flyers for the Fly-In will be finalized by this Thursday and we will include it in e-mails to other chapters. Flyers for distribution to airports, etc. will not be sent out until October 1 when electrical wires must be buried.

Bean bag drop will be included in the events and Berry St. John discussed the rules, volunteers needed and a safe minimum altitude [which will be determined].

Tom Saccio will send out e-mail regarding committee meeting and volunteer positions that need to be filled [parking vehicles, parking planes, food service, bean bag and spot landing contest].

Tom will also have a sign printed [on both sides] - EAA CHAPTER 1423 FLY-IN - to place on the road. Other signs need to be made showing parking area location.

Volunteers will be needed on October 19 to prepare the area - put up signs, rope off "out of bounds" areas, etc.
