EAA CHAPTER 1423 Minutes

November 17, 2007 Meeting

George called the meeting to order at 10:20 am. The meeting was held in the new South Oaks facility. We discussed adding bookshelves, pictures and aviation-related items to personalize the space.

The new gray t-shirts have arrived and the cost to members is $12. We do not have any sweatshirts at this time. If we wish to order polo shirts, we must place a minimum order of 2 dozen.

Our December 15 (Christmas party) meeting will be held at the Lewis residence on County Home Road. It will begin at 11 am and everyone should bring a dish. Each person should bring a Silly Santa gift costing not more than $10.

FLY-IN

We had approximately 50 people attend the October Fly-In. George suggested that we have two fly-ins per year (Spring and Fall) primarily for the aviation population rather than the general public. The fly-ins should be for fun and not to generate income. A motion was approved to assess each member a surcharge to cover additional costs incurred at the fly-in so as not to deplete our funds. The following dates were tentatively selected:

Spring             May 3, 2008

Fall                 October 18, 2008

Charles and George took some pictures of a "crashed" plane in a silo and thought it would be a good idea to do something similar on the roof of the barn. John Potter, John Knapp and Bobby Byrd all offered to provide the "crashed" plane.

Josh Brehm and Marv Jensen were thanked for their hard work on the website and newsletter. Josh requested more photos for the website. The newsletter needs more input in order to continue.

The Treasurer's report was given.

Sandy & Tom Saccio spoke about the Wright Flight program in Washington, NC. At present, there are 22 students taking the course and any of the members could volunteer to fly those students who pass the course. Fly Day will be scheduled for some time in March at the Washington airport. This will be discussed again in February.

The chapter sponsoring a Young Eagles event next year was brought up and will be discussed in further detail at the January meeting.

Program on airplane wiring and electrical was given by George.

The meeting ended at 12:45 pm and lunch was served by Marv and Laurlie Jensen.
