Meeting Minutes
19 April 2008
Chapter President George Tamvakis called the meeting to order at 1000.
He presented a letter written by previous guest speaker Hal Shook and his wife. Mr. Shook wrote to thank our chapter for inviting
him to talk. If you'd like to see a copy of the article written about his presentation, you can see it reproduced at the end of the April newsletter here on the website. Attendees of Sun 'N Fun 2008 reported seeing Mr. Shook there as well.
The Winterville Wings Spring Fly-In was discussed. Charles Lewis and Berry St. John talked about the jobs to be performed by volunteers and the events to take place. Charles nominated Josh Brehm to help with emceeing the event.
There was no Treasurer's Report.
A poll of 1423 members who made it to the Lakeland Fly-In was taken and a brief discussion of Sun 'N Fun took place.
Charles Lewis talked about his latest improvement project for South Oaks Aerodrome, a vintage gas station sign with our chapter logo on one side and airport data on the other side. He is funding this project privately.
George turned the meeting over to our guest speaker, Mr. Kent Misegades. Mr. Misegades presented a very nice Power Point slide show on the prewar history of Cessna Aircraft Company. It included wonderful archival photos and lots of humorous anecdotes. Mr. Misegades is an aeronautical engineer by training and provided some technical insight into the design of various Cessna types. It is worth noting that he flew his beautiful 1952 Cessna 170B to NC47.
George adjourned the meeting and all enjoyed a delicious meal prepared by Judy and Charles Lewis.
