EAA Chapter 1423
Meeting Summary
The meeting was called to order at
George welcomed new visitors and gave them an opportunity to share their aviation interests with the group.
The Treasurer’s Report was read by Laura Lee Potter.
George briefly reviewed the minutes from the February 18th meeting.
New Business:
George spoke for a few minutes concerning upcoming events at Sun N Fun including a BBQ dinner for EAA group leaders and chapter members. He felt like this would be a good event to attend in order to get useful ideas from other chapter leaders.
George reviewed with group the planned programs for future meetings. They include:
April: Bob Woods, the local DAR will discuss what it takes to obtain airworthiness certificates.
May: Our meeting will
take place in
June: Josh Brehm, fellow chapter member will discuss what is involved in commercial aviation.
July: Bob Woods will return to discuss the Ford Tri-Motor
August: A machining presentation is tentatively planned.
We still need suggestions for programs for the September, October and November meetings.
George updated the group on the t-shirt, sweatshirts and cap design featuring the “Winterville Wings” logo. The suggestion was made to check into pins and patches as well. Also, the good suggestion was made to use only the logo on the front of the child’s shirts as opposed to front and back. This will be more cost effective for the child’s size items.
Update on SouthOak field: The road will be paved after all of the heavy construction is completed on the houses that will be built.
The hangar material has been delivered and the foundation was being dug on Saturday 3/18. Weather permitting; the walls would be erected beginning Wednesday or Thursday. There will be 10 T-hangars; 5 will face the south, 5 will face the north. After the hangars are complete, work will begin on the clubhouse. Therefore, monthly meetings will continue to take place at John Potter’s shop for the next 4 or 5 months.
Chapter activities were discussed. The suggestion was made for a fly-in. The group unanimously agreed that the power lines need to be buried before we can seriously consider having a fly-in here for safety / liability reasons.
Another activity suggested by George was that of a Navigation Competition. After being given photos, the participant has to identify where they are going, the time it will take to get there and the amount of expected fuel burn. After completing the flight, the participant will land and awards will be given for the shortest landing and most accurate navigation skills.
