EAA CHAPTER 1423
Meeting Summary
August 19, 2006
The meeting was called to order at 9:55.
George welcomed returning members and guests. Guests included David Manning, Jim Woody’s stepson Derek, from Indiana, Chelsea and T.J. Saccio and Laura Brehm.
George reviewed the minutes from the July meeting.
The Treasurer’s Report was read by Laura Lee.
George asked the group to come up with fundraising ideas for the Chapter. It was suggested that the Aero Electric seminar would be one that our members would be interested in and one that could raise money for the Chapter. George will be collecting a $25.00 deposit from those who may be interested. The deposits will be held until the minimum number of participants is reached, and then the Seminar will be scheduled. George will send an email out to surrounding EAA Chapters to see if others may be interested in attending the seminar as well.
Charles Lewis informed the group of the Harvest Day that will be held at South Oaks Aerodrome on Saturday, September 30, 2006. The event runs from 11:30 – 9:00 and will include kid’s games, hot dogs, ice cream, hay rides and an auction. Those interested in having their planes on display or participating in a fly-by, please let Charles know.
George and Tom shared details with the group of the trip to Mt. Olive on Saturday August 12th.
The group was also reminded of the Auction that will be taking place next weekend (8/26 & 8/27) in Washington. Aircraft parts, tools, aviation magazines, etc. will be included in the Auction. Tom Saccio will be sending an email out to everyone with the time and directions to the Auction.
The meeting ended at 10:35 followed by a very interesting program by Calvin Mayo on machining and a meal provided by Wiley Price.
**Tom Saccio shared information with the group on a youth program called Wright Flight. This is a program being implemented in other states to introduce young people to aviation. It is a 9 week program and in order to graduate from the program each student must pass a test with a score of 80 or better, must promise to be alcohol and drug free and must improve at least one of their subject grades. Those who are successful receive a certificate, a t-shirt and an airplane ride. Tom is asking for assistance in getting this program started in our area. Anyone who may be able to help is asked to contact Tom.
